Rocky Mountain Raceways Celebrates 15 Years of Racing

Rocky Mountain Raceways has provided 15 years of the best short-track oval racing, drag racing and motocross racing in Utah.

Feb. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Located in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley, Rocky Mountain Raceways will be celebrating its 15th Anniversary in 2011.
The Young Automotive Group took what was previously known as Bonneville Raceway and transformed it into Rocky Mountain Raceways. Since its grand opening in 1997 Rocky Mountain Raceways has strived to be a state-of-the-art racing facility focusing on safety, quality racing and fun family entertainment.
“It seems like just yesterday we decided to make the business decision to build a world class short track and drag strip and improve on the history and vitality of motor sports racing in Utah and the Western Region,” says Spencer Young, President of Rocky Mountain Raceways.
“ My brothers and I felt that we wanted to get involved in motor sports in the Salt Lake Valley for several reasons, first, was a legitimate business opportunity, second, was to expand our circle of influence and friends, third, was to enhance, build and help the racing community that has such a rich history and forth, to have fun. I think that we have accomplished many of our original objectives and we will continue to work with the community, the racers and the fans to build upon what we have all done together and work toward making RMR a better if not the best destination for entertainment and motor sports enthusiasm,” says Young.
Featuring the ASA 3/8-mile high-banked asphalt oval, IHRA 1/4-mile drag strip and the Plaza Cycle Motocross Park; Rocky Mountain Raceways is equipped to host a variety of local and national racing series. Rocky Mountain Raceways 15th Anniversary will be marked with new classes and crowd-favorite traditions including the figure-8 Maverik Clash of the Titans Monster Truck event.
“Several new classes will begin competing on all three of our venues and a couple new traveling series will stop here for the first time.  I am excited to see the SRL Spears Southwest Tour when they stop July 23rd. The final plans for our IHRA Nitro Jam are taking shape.  Six words: “Grave Digger racing a Jet Truck.”  That alone should be worth the price of admission for the biggest event of the season,” says Mike Eames, Rocky Mountain General Manager.
"RMR had two National Champions last year, one on the ASA Oval track and one on the IHRA drag strip and that tells the nation what kind of high caliber racing we have at RMR. This will bode well to attract more attention from regional racers and local participation now knowing that we can compete and even beat the best in the nation,” says Young.
“It’s hard to believe that this is our 15th year running as Rocky Mountain Raceways.  We are so excited to see how 2011 unfolds as we usher in a new era. The entire staff is getting ready and we will be racing before we know it,” says Eames.
Rocky Mountain Raceways will kick off its 15th season on Saturday, April 30 with the ASA Super Oval Season Opener. Check www.rmrracing.com for a tentative schedule of all three venues.
