Daytona Beach marina gets a second chance

New ownership brings new life and look to Adventure Yacht Harbor

Feb. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Adventure Yacht Harbor, one of the most popular and well-known marinas on Florida’s east coast, is being given a second chance thanks to Charlie and Sheryl Roach who purchased the foreclosed property in late 2010.  The 137-slip marina continues to serve boaters as the Roaches update and renovate the 25-acre site along the Intracoastal Waterway and the Halifax River.

"We have been looking for a marina for a long time, looked at I don't know how many," said Charlie Roach, 55, an avid boater. "This one just made sense. It's a cool spot. We made what we thought was a fair offer."

The Roaches, from Jacksonville, Florida, said they don’t expect to make any staffing changes, praising the work of longtime harbormaster Jim Boren for keeping the facility in shape and maintaining customer-loyalty during the foreclosure process.

"When we came to visit, the property felt like North Florida," Sheryl Roach said. "It didn't feel like the Daytona Beach I knew. This is quiet and peaceful and has a good feeling. We want to keep it that way.”

The popular on-site restaurant Boondocks will continue to serve lunch and dinner as usual. The open air waterfront dining and raw bar continue to attract local customers, boaters, and visitors.

A new logo has been designed, new brochure and advertising, and a website is in the works. Along with renewed attention to customer satisfaction, the Roaches say they want to bring the marina back to its earlier days when there was a waiting list of boats wanting to call Adventure Yacht Harbor their home.

"Word is getting out to those who were driven away (by the previous owners), and we're starting to get some back," Sheryl said.
