Feb. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- The Brunswick Old Fashioned Days committee selected Willetts Middle School as the recipient of the annual Old Fashioned Days School Grant award. Seven school programs/organizations in Brunswick, Ohio, applied for the $300 school grant; however, the OFD committee voted for the special education program at Willetts Middle School as the winner. The grant money will help students at Willetts Middle School’s special education program in Brunswick, Ohio, with their social and communication skills.

The special education program advisor, Kim Tanski, wrote in her school grant application essay, “We as a department have the students participate in game activities to have the students work on their communication, turn taking, and general life skills in a fun manner.” She also explained that many of the games they currently have are either outdated and do not interest the students or the games have pieces missing. Tanski also stated that the games purchased with the grant money will also benefit the Games Club at Willetts Middle School.

The Brunswick Old Fashioned Days’ School Grant annually awards up to $300 to a Brunswick student group, special class, extra-curricular activity or school district sponsored event. The OFD School Grant requirements also must benefit more than one student, all purchases/projects must be sanctioned by the school district, and more than one application per group is acceptable. OFD grant applications must also include a short essay describing why the grant would benefit the student or school organization/group as well as how it would impact the lives of the students directly involved and the school system as a whole. All school grant money is derived from the Brunswick Old Fashioned Days Festival held every year in June. The grant application deadline is mid-January.

If any Brunswick, Ohio, school group/organization is interested in applying for the Old Fashioned Days School Grant, please contact committee members Caryn Kish or Kevin Schemrich at 330-220-1111. The next school grant application will be available in December 2011.
