With all this snow on the ground and more predicted, start planning your next outdoor adventure.  There’s more to do than just make snow angels and have snow ball fights (although those are pretty darn fun, too.)  Check out these local places for sledding, outdoor skating, cross country skiing and, yes, even snowshoeing.  (All right here in the Red Bank area!)

Sledding: Just about every town has that one good sledding hill, but if you need a change of pace (and want some supervision), head over to Holmdel Park’s sledding hill at Longstreet Road.  It’s open for sledding when two or more inches of snow cover the hill.  Hours are Sunday – Thursday from 8am -7pm and Friday and Saturday from 8 AM – 9 PM.  Call Holmdel Park to check out the sledding conditions at (732) 946-9562.

Ice Skating: Or take the kids ice skating in the great outdoors.  Kids can skate when the ice is at least five inches thick and when there areSkating Today signs up at Holmdel, Shark River and Turkey Swamp Park, as well as the Manasquan Reservoir.

When the ice is considered safe, skating hours at most parks are Sunday – Thursday from 8 AM-7 PM and Friday and Saturday from 8 AM - 9 PM.  The Manasquan Reservoir is open only until 5pm.

Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing:  Did you know that you can rent cross county skis and even snowshoes at the Thompson Park Visitor Center in Lincroft?  You can ski or snowshoe trails of Clayton, Hartshorne Woods, Holmdel, Huber Woods, Shark River, Tatum, Thompson, and Turkey Swamp Parks.  You should call in advance to check on availability.  Cross-Country Ski equipment is $15 for 24 hours and Snowshoes are $10 for 24 hours.  Call 732-842-4000, ext. 4312 between 10:30 AM – 3 PM.
