Jan. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Frankfurt, Germany — The Frankfurt Cloud project, co-sponsored by Deutsche Bank AG and the Goethe University of Frankfurt, has selected InContinuum Software’s CloudController® software to serve as the central tool to manage a large heterogeneous virtualization environment for delivering cloud-based managed services. The project selected CloudController® after a lengthy proof-of-concept and engineering evaluation of various cloud management solutions. The InContinuum software is used to provide seamless integration of virtualization management and back office business processes to deliver cloud-based managed services to the entire supply chain management and services users in the Frankfurt Cloud.

The Frankfurt Cloud, initiated by the Goethe University of Frankfurt and supported by the Deutsche Bank, provides both organizations an infrastructure to support research in the appropriate application of cloud technology, and functions as a test bed for the Deutsche Bank to evaluate cloud products and service offerings for the market and to design and investigate novel cloud management concepts, e.g. load distribution, automated application deployment, user billing and management of federated clouds.

Currently, the cloud environment consists of Cisco server infrastructure, VMware vSphere software, Cisco networking infrastructure and EMC storage networking infrastructure. In the first half of 2011 the capacity of the Frankfurt Cloud is being expanded by adding new hardware, and the addition of a Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization environment in a separate location – making it a heterogeneous cloud, all managed seamlessly by CloudController®.

“Sponsoring the Frankfurt Cloud project gave the Deutsche Bank the opportunity to contribute to the research community, and at the same time allowed the bank to gain valuable insights to the state-of-the-technology in the burgeoning cloud computing segment of the IT industry. We first saw InContinuum’s management platform in April 2010 and decided to keep an eye on them as we formulated concrete plans for the project,” said Dr. Hermann-Josef Lamberti, COO, Deutsche Bank. “We’re running the Frankfurt Cloud on world-class infrastructure from Cisco, VMware, EMC2, etc. What really impressed us about CloudController® is the simplicity with which it automates complex infrastructure management and business processes together. This is the type of innovation we require to move forward.”

“Our goal with the Frankfurt Cloud project is to see what the cloud has to offer and be able to service users from all disciplines of the university. A cloud-based managed service does not differentiate between the types of user – it differentiates in its service catalogue. We looked at many tools in the market and quite simply CloudController® delivered as advertised. It was installed and running ‘out-of-the-box’ with no hiccups in a large complex environment,” said Prof. Dr. Clemens Jochum, House of Finance, Goethe University. “As the Frankfurt Cloud grows into a generic cloud for servicing the community as a whole we look forward to growing with InContinuum.”

“We are very proud to have been selected as the cloud management platform by Deutsche Bank and the Goethe University as the core of the Frankfurt Cloud project. To have CloudController® validated in such a high-profile environment after a comprehensive competitive trial period is confirmation of the tangible benefits enterprises realize in operational efficiency by automating their private or public cloud services supply chain with CloudController®,” said Phillip Hyde, CEO of InContinuum Software. “As the project moves forward in both organizations we look forward to further showcase new cloud innovations coming from InContinuum.”

CloudController® is a web-based management application platform, that interfaces seamless with VMware vSphere/vCloud, Citrix XenServer, Microsoft Hyper-V/SCVMM, and open source hypervisors, allowing corporate enterprises, Virtual Data Center service providers, their resellers and end-user customers to automate the configuration, ordering, billing, payment, chargeback, provisioning, deployment, management, maintenance, support and reporting over all managed services provided from a Private, Public or Hybrid Cloud Computing infrastructure platform.
