MJDS Celebrates 10 Years …; ”This is the best way to grow up learning!”

Jan. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- The above is a quote from one of the students and a phrase heard frequently at the Montessori Jewish Day School. Students and staff members at the Montessori Jewish Day School, 55 Yeomans Road, are busier than ever this month as they prepare a series of special events planned for the celebration of their 10th year Anniversary and Montessori Education Week, February 21st – 25th.  The school is inviting members of the Jewish community to come and take a firsthand look at the child-centered, individualized approach. MJDS offers a truly unique learning experience – one that embraces the diversity of Jewish practice, integrates Hebrew and responds to a child’s natural love for learning.  

"The Montessori Jewish Day School may be one of the best-kept secrets in education", says school head Regina Lulka.  “Our children are educated to become knowledgeable and committed citizens who love learning, love Judaism, Jewish culture and Israel.  We believe all parents should know about this educational option, and paying us a visit is the best way to understand what sets us apart”. Parents, professionals and researchers on education alike recognize that the Montessori approach is on the cutting edge of today's school reform movement. Multi-age groupings, a rich and extensive curriculum implemented with hands-on materials, cross-discipline learning, and care of the global environment are just a few of these innovative characteristics, all in a school setting with a ‘family atmosphere’ according to Regina Lulka From their original early childhood classes for ages 3 through 6, Montessori Jewish Day School has now expanded to serve children ages 2.5 – 14, accommodating over 100 students, 20 staff members, and a dynamic Board of Directors.

Each classroom is led by a qualified Judaic Studies teacher and a certified Montessori teacher working together.  The curriculum encompasses four major fields: Jewish Culture- Shabbat and Holidays, Bible Studies (Chumash), Hebrew language and Tfila.

MJDS Director of Judaic Studies Lilach Golan, states, “Our hands-on activities reinforce Jewish values and customs in a fun and educational manner, helping the children to embrace our rich heritage and thus develop a strong Jewish Identity. They learn about Jewish history and rituals, Bar and Bat Mitzvah and connect to Israel on a regular basis, they do volunteer work and they arrange field trips and apprenticeships. As our students go out into society they become thoughtful and responsible citizens who can and wish to contribute to our community.”
