New Data Protection Qualification Awarded By PDP
RESULTS were announced this week to candidates for the new Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection examination, the UK’s new practical qualification for data protection professionals run by PDP Training.
The Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection Programme has been created in response to the need to for organisations and individuals to demonstrate their accountability in the increasingly complex legal minefield that is data protection.
The first exam for the new qualification took place in December 2010. Organisations that now feature a certified Data Protection Professional on their staff include: Barclaycard, Kent County Council, Allianz Insurance, EMTA Awards, Zurich Insurance, Wiltshire Fire & Rescue, BNP Paribas, Nottingham Trent University, NHS Mid Essex, Pitney Bowes, the Institute for Learning and others.
Candidates on the Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection Programme were required to attend 5 days of intensive tuition and to study a broad range of materials, as well as passing the examination.
The popularity of the qualification is growing very rapidly with over three times the number of candidates registered to take the exam in June 2011 as took it in December 2010.
Mike Lytheer, Data Protection Officer at Zurich Insurance, one of the successful candidates, says: “I am delighted to pass the Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection. It will be good to be seen as an expert in my field, and wear a badge of professionalism. This will enhance my credibility and status with customers, fellow privacy professionals and people I deal with on a daily basis.”
Alan White, Data Protection Manager at Pitney Bowes, says: “I am very pleased to have followed the Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection course and passed the examination. This will be of great benefit to my employer, as it demonstrates the value we place on this complex area of ethics and compliance.”
Peter Carey, Head of the Examination Board for the Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection, says: “I am delighted to see a majority of candidates passing the Examination. The standard was high, and I think that it was tougher than most people were expecting.”
