Jan. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Stopping  Childhood Obesity  Alert:  Kids Feel They will be Trapped forever.

Stopping Childhood Obesity Epidemic has just gotten  its wake-up call:
Dr. Alon Leibovitz, Pediatrician and member of Kids Medicine Made Simple Project   has announced that unless our motivation for stopping childhood obesity matches that of the Chilean miners desire to be freed, we will fail our kids.  The entire world stood still and watched with admiration the  amazing rescue of the trapped Chilean miners. Interestingly, given the rescue capsule diameter  limitations  of 35.4 inches, many miners had to lose weight in order to be pulled to their freedom-what a motivation to inspire weight loss! Yet what motivation do US parents have in STOPPING CHILDHOOD OBESITY? Or will our children be forever trapped??
New Hyde Park, New York—Dr. Alon Leibovitz has officially put Stopping Childhood Obesity Campaign on notice.  Childhood Obesity has become an epidemic in USA, and our motivation to combat this epidemic is dismal.  Will it require  a catastrophic event, like the one the Chilean miners’ experienced in order to get the US parents motivated to take drastic measures in stopping childhood obesity?
As Dr. Leibovitz stated: “In my 20 years working with children I have  seen childhood obesity rise to epidemic proportions.  Latest studies have proven that as of  2010: 50 % of children in the United States will be overweight”.    Most parents with obese children want their child to be at a healthier weight.  However, for many reason these parents need motivation to inspire this change.
Dr. Leibovitz went on to say: “What motivation can we offer US parents in stopping childhood obesity?   In some rare cases parents with severely obese children  have been accused of medical neglect,  but this is not what he proposes.  He strongly believe that a national obesity prevention campaign needs to be implemented all over the USA  that offers a multidisciplinary approach: with exercise trainers, nutritionist, and psychological experts working with the entire family to promote healthy weight loss.
Until such a national  program is implemented, Dr Leibovitz has identified 10 key factors that parents with obese children can implement now to start the process of promoting healthier weight loss. Here are 3:
1.   Set a good example and change your sedentary ways if you have an inactive lifestyle. You're children look for ideas and actions to mimic, so make sure they have a positive, active, and responsible parent.
2.   Refrain from awarding children with sweets. Yes, children should be rewarded for good behavior and good grades, but find a healthier way to do so. A couple of ideas include taking them to see their favorite sports team, going to see a movie, a trip to the mall or picking out a new book at the bookstore. Do not reward your children with food. Giving food as a reward can start a pattern of self destructive behavior and an inappropriate relationship with food. When a child associates food with pleasure instead of riding a bike or playing soccer, obesity is only a sit on the couch away.
3.   Do not deride your child's weight. Instead of ridiculing your child for being overweight, try and determine why your child has weight issues. Providing large portions, poor food choices in general, lack of self-esteem or a sedentary lifestyle could all be causes for childhood obesity. Tackling the problem in this manner is much more positive and beneficial.
These 3 tips are just a few of the ways Parents can start   STOPPING CHILDHOOD OBESITY in their own family.  The complete report: STOPPING CHILDHOOD OBESITY is available for immediate download www.kidsmedicinemadesimple.com And, to help as many families struggling with childhood obesity as possible, this valuable report is now available for only $1.00
