Jan. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- This is the first ever randomized study on manipulation maintenance therapy for chronic low back disorders that will be published in the prestigious Spine Journal. This study consisted of 3 groups. The 1st group received 12 spinal manipulation treatments over 1 month. The 2nd group received 12 sham spinal manipulation treatments over one month. The 3rd group received 12 spinal manipulation treatments over one month and continue to receive one spinal manipulation treatment per month for 10 further months. The maintenance group actually showed even further improvement after the 10 once per month treatments! This is a very important study because of the benefit to patients and because chiropractic maintenance treatment is controversial among many non chiropractic providers and stakeholders. Previous non randomized studies have shown benefit, but of course further future randomized trials will be helpful to more fully confirm the benefit.
