Siam Square ( Bangkok)

This collection of five traditional wooden Thai houses was once the residence of Prin¬cess Chumbon of Nakhon Sawan and before that a lettuce farm, thus the name `Lettuce Farm Palace .

Feb. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Wang Suan Phakkat:
Within the stilt buildings are displays of art, antiques and furnishings. The landscaped grounds are a peaceful oasis complete with ducks and swans, and a semi-enclosed garden.
The diminutive Lacquer Pavillon, at the back of the complex, dates from the Ayuthaya period and features gold-leaf jataka (stories of the Buddha's past lives) and Ramayana murals as well as scenes from daily Ayuthaya life; the building ori¬ginally sat in a monastery compound on Mae Nam Chao Phraya, just south of Ayuthaya. Larger residential structures at the front of the complex contain displays of Khmer-style Hindu and Buddhist art, Ban Chiang ceramics and a very interesting collection of historie Buddhas, including a beautiful late U Thong—style image. For more info : http://www.booking-thailand.net
The palace is between Th Phayathai and Th Ratchaprarop and is within walking dis¬tance from Phayathai Skytrain station.
Bangkok Doll Factory & Museum :
Th Ratchaprarop in the Pratunam district, houses a colourful selection of traditional Thai dolls, both new and antique. Dolls are also available for purchase.
Next to the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel is Erawan Shrine (San Phra Phrom; cnr Th
Ratchadamri & Th Ploenchit), which was originally built to ward off bad luck during the construction of the first Erawan Hotel (tom down to make way for the Grand Hyatt Erawan some years ago). The four headed deity at the centre of the shrine is Brahma (Phra Phrom in Thai), the Hindu god of creation. Apparently the developers of the original Erawan (named after Airvata, Indra's three-headed elephant mount) first erected a typical Thai spirit house but decided to replace it with the more impres¬sive Brahman shrine after several serious mishaps delayed the hotel construction. Worshippers who have a wish granted may return to the shrine to commission the musicians and dancers, who are always on hand for an impromptu performance.More info : http://www.booking-thailand.net
Since the success of the Erawan Shrine, several other flashy Brahman shrines have been erected around the city next to large hotels and office buildings. Next to the World Trade Centre on Th Ploenchit is a large shrine containing a standing Brahma, a rather unusual posture for Thai Brahmas. Next to Amarin Plaza, near the Chut Lom Skytrain station, is a sizeable Indra Shrine.
