Dr Kerch says, "I am interested in spending the time with you developing a doctor/patient relationship that will assure a successful treatment program. Working together we can find the best therapy program and course of action to resolve your foot and ankle issues."

The most common problems Dr. Kerch treats are ingrown nails, plantar fascitis, ankle sprains, athlete’s foot, tendonitis, injury, diabetics preventative and ulcer care, orthotics for those needing proper support and control under their feet to solve many biomechanical issues. After an I-step evaluation, a decision can be made choosing from five different types of arch supports varying from over-the counter to custom made orthotics.

Dr. Kerch recommends walking as the best of all foot exercises.
Did you know diabetes is the leading cause of non-traumatic lower-limb amputation?

Be prepared! An average day of walking brings a force equal to several hundred tons to your feet. Choose the right shoes. Dr Kerch says," I can visually show how a recommended shoe works. Un-loading painful foot areas, redistributing impact more equally, reducing impact, or customizing the shoe fit are some features of recommended shoe gear to be reviewed." You can see first-hand how the rocker-sole, spring loaded shoes or therapeutic shoes functions at "Your 2 Feet" associated with Dr. Kerch's clinic. Some of these shoes are approved by the Medicare Diabetic shoe reimbursement program if you qualify. Please call for more details on this.

What is a podiatric surgeon?
A podiatric surgeon is a surgical specialist who performs surgery on the feet, ankles, and sometimes the lower leg. Podiatric surgeons are also known as “foot and ankle surgeons” in a reference to their area of specialty. In order to become a podiatric surgeon, a doctor must attend podiatric medical school, followed by a residency in podiatric surgery. Podiatric surgeons have special training and skills which greatly improve patient outcomes. Dr. Kerch attended podiatric medical school and did her surgical residency in Chicago, Illinois.

Podiatrists in general focus on disorders of the lower extremities, including damage caused by chronic conditions such as diabetes, trauma to the feet and ankles, and congenital malformations. A podiatric surgeon may opt to specialize on areas of interest such as sports injuries, damage to the lower legs caused by poor circulation, or pediatric medical issues. As with many medical specialties, podiatry is paired with a surgical specialty, podiatric surgery, to ensure that patients can get high quality surgical care from someone who is trained both as a surgeon and as a podiatrist.

Dr. Kerch performs surgery and does consultations at Swedish Hospital. Dr. Kerch works with a team at Swedish where she has performed repairs, reconstructions, and corrections on the feet and ankles, dealing with everything from severe bunions to badly broken feet which require surgery for stabilization. Dr. Kerch may have a variety of approaches to surgical challenges, and will utilize many tools to evaluate patients before surgery, including a physical examination, medical imaging studies to visualize the inside of the foot and ankle, and patient interviews to discuss surgical options and outcomes.

In addition to working in the operating room, Dr. Kerch works as a part of the care team when needed to help a patient manage an ongoing condition. After surgery, for example, Dr. Kerch may recommend that the patient be fitted for specialized supportive shoes to promote healing, or work with another care provider to help a patient manage an ongoing condition which led to the need for podiatric surgery. It is important to identify the early signs of conditions which may involve the feet and lower legs, and catch such conditions before they develop into major problems.

Dr. Kerch is Board Certified with the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Board certification protects patients by holding medical professionals to a certain standard and enforcing that standard, and it also improves the standard of medical care and practice. Board certifying organizations typically hold continuing education classes, sponsor conferences, and publish trade journals which are designed to keep their members up to date on news in the field and matters of general interest to the medical community.
