Jan. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Rotherham based Bromley Technologies secured Skeleton Bobsleigh’s first main title of the 2010/11 season, as Shelley Rudman slid to Gold in the Women’s European Championships.

The race in Winterberg, Germany was also the sixth round of this year’s World Cup competition and saw Shelley take on the might of the home team athletes, including current World Cup leader Anna Huber, whom Shelley has been battling with all season at the top of the women’s rankings.

Shelley laid down the gauntlet to her competitors in the first run, putting in a time that the majority of the field failed to get within 0.5 seconds of, with only Huber coming close as she reached the halfway point in the competition only 0.15 seconds behind Team GB’s top slider.

The second slide saw the field reversed and so as leader Shelley was the final athlete down the track, eventually increasing her overall winning margin over Huber to 0.22 seconds, with Canadian Amy Gough taking the World Cup Bronze medal 0.75 seconds off the pace.

After the race Shelley said:

“It's great to have won the European Championships again, and to have secured a World Cup Gold, after four consecutive Silvers in the last races. Just want to thank Team Bromley for providing a superb sled, and a special thank you to Richard Bromley who sacrifices a lot to be out here at the races with Kristan and I.

"I'm looking forward to the remainder of the World Cup season. The final two tracks are ones that I’ve done well on in the past, and with only 36 points between myself and Anja (Huber), I'm sure the race for the World Cup title is going to go right down to the wire."

The final two World Cup rounds take place in St Moritz this Friday and Cesana (Torino), both tracks where Shelley won Gold last year, and with Torino the scene of her 2006 Winter Olympic Silver Medal success.

Bromley Technologies are based at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham, and Bromley’s chief operating officer, Mike Maddock, praised Shelley’s performance;

“This is a great result for Shelley and really confirms her as the sport’s most consistent female athlete of the past three seasons, securing 12 World Cup medals. It’s also good to see the Bromley skeleton programme pick up another major Championship title. Over the last three years our Team GB skeleton athletes have secured 18 World cup medals.

“To maintain this level of peak performance over 11 years, is testament to our expertise and continual research and development activities, which explains why 14 nations use Bromley Technologies equipment and make the programme the World’s most successful commercial skeleton bobsleigh supplier. And as we also develop and design equipment in the F1 and Moto2 environments we can utilise the skills learnt from many areas of performance.

“The Bromley Technologies team are over the moon how our athletes have dominated this season and wish them well in the last few races. Kristan was having an amazing season, standing 2nd overall in the world ranking, unfortunately due to an injury he has had to miss the last 2 races however we hope he will be back competing in St Moritz this week where he won Silver last year.”
