High Needs School Receives $5000 from Nelson Education as Winner of 2nd NelsonSchoolCentral Giveaway

Jan. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Toronto, ON  — Anne Fitzgerald Catholic Elementary rings in the New Year with a fortuitous windfall of educational resources for its students. Linda Melnyk, Assistant Principal of Anne Fitzgerald Catholic Elementary and second winner of the NelsonSchoolCentral.com $5000 giveaway, received her prize on Monday, January 24th at a celebratory presentation.

Voted one of Canada’s Top 40 Schools by Today’s Parent Magazine in 2005, Anne Fitzgerald Catholic Elementary is known for its strong community focus. In recent years, it has also been recognized as one of several high-needs schools in the Edmonton Catholic District, with a growing First Nations and ESL (English as a Second Language) population, as well as families dependent on social assistance.

“This has truly made Christmas special for our staff and ultimately our students,” said a thrilled Melnyk, who was first notified of the win in December and described it as a “miracle”. News spread quickly among staff at the tight-knit school, and teachers worked together to draft up a wish list of resources from Nelson Education.
