Boston Porsche Dealer Thrilled About All Star Awards

Jan. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Each year, the worldwide staff of editors, bureau chiefs and freelancers of AUTOMOBILE Magazine convene to drive and compare raw performance and pure enthusiast appeal of the various makes and models, to see which one of the contestants is “best in class” in any one of ten different categories.

“The Boxster is an all-seasons convertible sports car beyond compare; the striking Cayman entices you to pay an extra few thousand dollars to fully immerse yourself in its sweet motor music,” said AUTOMOBILE Magazine of the German sports car manufacturer’s mid-engine line-up. “By making the Boxster and Cayman share their All-Star awards in recent years, we’ve carefully avoided the tough decision of having to choose between these two models.”

The AUTOMOBILE Magazine All-Star winners for 2011 will appear in the February issue. The Boxster and Cayman models were also named to Car and Driver Magazine’s 10 Best cars sold in America. This year marks the 10th time in 12 years that either a Porsche Boxster or Cayman model has been named to this coveted list.

The Boxster is known for precise steering, slick handling, and sweet sounds—and that’s just the base and S models. For 2011, in addition to base and S trims, Porsche added the Spyder to the Boxster lineup. 2011 marked the debut of the next-generation Boxster for Boston Porsche drivers.

Both Boxster models are equipped with brand engine developments. The Boxster has a larger capacity, performance-enhanced, water-cooled six-cylinder Boxer engine that is free revving, with optimum load change and extremely smooth running. With a perfectly matched interplay of all engine components, the Boxster now develops 188 kW (255 hp).

VarioCam Plus in conjunction with the optimised intake manifold ensures high torque even at low speeds, and excellent power development in the upper rev range. Maximum torque is available over a wide rev range, reaching 290 Nm between 4,400 and 6,000 rpm.

The engine in the Boxster S features direct fuel injection (DFI). This means even more power: the 3.4-litre power plant develops 228 kW (310 hp) at a maximum torque of 360 Nm between 4,400 and 5,500 rpm. 2011 Porsche Cayman Performance
Cayman models are equipped with brand engine developments, but have retained the familiar layout: six horizontally opposed cylinders. The 2.9-litre engine of the Cayman delivers 195 kW (265 hp) at an engine speed of 7,200 rpm. The maximum torque of 300 Nm is achieved between 4,400 and 6,000 rpm. The engine of the Cayman S has a 3.4-litre capacity and, for the first time, direct fuel injection (DFI). Power output is 235 kW (320 hp) at 7,200 rpm. Maximum torque: 370 Nm at 4,750 rpm.

2011 Cayman models are equipped with alloy engines. The advantages are their low weight and reduced fuel consumption. Thanks to ingenious design down to the finest detail, it has been possible to reduce the weight of the new generation of engines even further, e.g. by fully integrating the camshaft bearings into the cylinder heads.
