Jan. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- The winners of the SongDoor 2010 International Songwriting Competition have been announced: the Grand Award has gone to Ryan Martinez of Los Angeles, California, for the song "You Didn't Break Me." Entries were received from 21 countries on four continents.

“It's ironic that Ryan was the very first person to ever enter SongDoor, back in 2006,” says SongDoor president Tony Zotta. “He's entered every year since then, and his songs have frequently made the finals and semi-final rounds. If there is one lesson, one word to take away from this, it's 'persistence'! The SongDoor judges (Dennis Winters, Nancy Moran, Steve Avedis, Jason Blume, Brady Seals, Tony Raine and Joe Beck) were unanimous in their acclaim for the infectious pop anthem, which all of them labeled "radio-ready."

“Wow," said winner Martinez, a veteran songwriter who dabbles in multiple genres, from country-pop to rock. "Having my song chosen for the Grand Award by some of the best writers in the business is very gratifying, especially in an industry where rejection is the norm even for established pros."

Ryan Martinez was born and raised in N.Y., but currently lives in Los Angeles. He obtained a degree in history from UCLA. and upon graduating, promptly set out to make his name as a songwriter. He was the Grand Prize Winner in the 12th Annual Unisong contest, and perhaps most notably a finalist in the American Idol Songwriter contest in 2007 when his song "Waking in a Dream" beat out nearly 30,000 entries to make the top 25.

Ryan has recently collaborated with several of the most succesful music production teams in Europe, including major label hitmaker Xasqui Martinez (no relation), widely considered one of the most important music producers both in Spain and internationally (Universal Vale, Sony, Disney.)

On approaching European producers, Martinez feels that they are "more open to the idea of listening to demos due to a less litigious business culture." He adds: "Some of my greatest connections resulted from a simple email. Granted, I do my homework first..."

There were also six Category Winners (below). All winning songs may be heard online at http://www.songdoor.com. The competition was generously sponsored by SongU.com, Broadjam, 16 Ton Studios, MasterWriter, NueWave Studios, Tanager Audioworks and Hard Twist Music/BMI. All entrants (not just the winners) will receive a free self-paced online songwriting course from SongU.com, as well as free songwriting software to help them improve their skills.
