Editors at Decisive Auto magazine, along with a panel of 15 independent automotive journalists, selected the year's most stylish, practical and attainable vehicles. The judging panel spent several months driving dozens of cars in a variety of North American urban settings before choosing the 2011 VW Jetta Diesel as the green award winner.

Linden VW shoppers will love that the Jetta TDI engine runs as quietly as a gasoline engine and is good for an outstanding EPA-estimated 30 mpg city and 42 mpg highway. It comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission or the option of a six-speed automatic Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission.  VW says the DSG is one of the most advanced and efficient automatic transmission systems in the world, featuring the performance of a manual gearbox with the effortless precision of an automatic transmission.

Linden VW shoppers will also appreciate the fact that the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI features a 2.0L turbocharged and direct injected engine that provides 140 horsepower at 4,000 rpm, as well as an impressive output of 236 lb. ft. of torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm.

The Jetta TDI's turbo-diesel engine uses VW's new clean diesel technology, making this car compliant with all 50 states' emissions requirements.

The current Volkswagen Jetta sedan is available in S, SE, Wolfsburg Edition, TDI, TDI Cup "Street" Edition and SEL trim levels, while the Sportwagen comes in S, SE and TDI only. All S and SE models, as well as the SEL sedan, are powered by a 170-horsepower 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder. A five-speed manual is standard with this engine, while a six-speed automatic is optional.

The Wolfsburg Edition Jetta gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter four good for 200 hp and a six-speed manual transmission. VW's "DSG" dual-clutch automated manual transmission is also available.

Even the base S trim on the Jetta TDI comes with such niceties as stability control, heated seats and eight-way-adjustable heated front seats with power recline, while the SE features upgrades like a sunroof, heated front seats and a 10-speaker stereo. Further luxuries can be had with the SEL trim and through stand-alone options such as a hard-drive-based navigation system.
