2.It’s yard sale time! Sell anything you don’t need or list your items online at eBay. In hard times your old junk is dead weight. Sell them for some cash and ease your mind when the light bill is due.

3.Dump the video rentals and cable bill or if you must have it drop all the extra channels and keep the internet you know they show the same things over and over you can see all the movies on Hulu and TV.com anyway! Besides, didn’t you know you can get DVD’s as well as books at the local library for free? Who needs Blockbuster?

4.Start Brown bagging a lunch and get the kids a lunchbox. Yep, the lunchbox is making a resurgence with all the cool characters on TV the kids love now they are cloth and space age materials sometimes with matching Thermos and backpacks spend a little on the kids now and save a bundle in lunch costs later. Remember the best foods for lunch boxes are Whole grain breads, Fruit and vegetable Juices, Tortilla Chips, Celery, Apples, Granola bars, Nut Spreads like peanut butter or Almond and Pasteurized Cheeses. But in a crunch good ol’ P B and J is still a fave!

5.Convert your water heater to gas it’s less expensive and more efficient

7.Keep your old car. Who knows?... one day it could be a classic!

8.Cancel the Health club and start jogging or hiking, same workout no fees.

9.Keep change jars for extra emergency cash.

10.Have the kids join Boy scouts or Girl scouts for the price of a uniform, a handbook and a few dollars a week you get an excellent babysitting service and occasional kid friendly outings.

11.Coupons one of the thriftiest ideas that never grows old!

12.Gardening growing your own fresh herbs is not only healthy and delicious but saves you money!

13.Clean up spills and kitchen counters with a mixture of water, white vinegar, and baking soda instead of those expensive detergents a squeeze of lemon or orange will give you that extra clean scent.

14.Buy on Lay away instead of using your credit card it saves you bundles.

15.Home canning a great weekend project that can save money is to learn how to can make an adventure out of it by taking the family to a local farm for fruit or berry picking for a few dollars you can get enough produce to give you enough preserves, jams, and other canned goods to last the winter.

16.Buy stocks, when the economy is bad it is the best time to buy stock like GM, AMD, or Coca Cola, invest a little bit and hold on to it go with your gut but don’t spend too much think of it as a long term insurance policy.

17.Set up an emergency fund for unexpected expenses and  keep your  favorite Credit card and destroy the rest after you pay them off of course and pledge never to own more than two credit cards per family again!

18.Avoid Casinos and Expensive Hotel vacations, instead get some friends and rent a ouse at an exotic location. Everyone gets their own room , privacy, and many vacation home rental firms like Sandbridge Realty in Virginia Beach VA., or Martinsville Streamside Cottages in the Poconos PA have a linen service as well.

19.Go out less to clubs, dinner etc…and when you do use public transportation.

20.Quit smoking and drinking it’s expensive and your better health will reduce your medical and insurance bills.
