ESSENSIUM signs a contract with Flightcare for track and trace of vehicles at Brussels Airport.

Jan. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Selected from a tender initiative of POM Vlaams-Brabant (the Provincial development authority of Flemish-Brabant), ESSENSIUM is providing Flightcare with a track and trace solution for its fleet management of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) at Brussels National Airport. This technology will enable Flightcare to optimize their GSE usage but also improve safety and reduce fuel and maintenance costs.

Director Purchases & Support Services Geert Oliebos at Flightcare explained: “Accurate and timely position and status info of airplane nose wheel lifters will improve our reaction to changing flight schedules and gate assignments and will enable dynamic dispatching control for optimum service levels.” Airport Infrastructure Manager, Geert Roegiers, added: “We also anticipate significant fuel cost savings and carbon footprint reduction by detecting and reducing engine idle time.”

Essensium´s LOST^TM (LOcation for Sensor Tracking) solution uses a Wide-over-Narrowband RF implementation providing both high accuracy and long range, and operating both indoors and outdoors. Integrated GPS capabilities ensure location tracking across the wider airfield, while the higher performance LOST^TM  tracking capabilities are used for key areas where there is no adequate GPS coverage.

Sensor and CAN-bus connections mean that, along with accurate information about the position of the vehicles, we also report key vehicle status information, essential for effective fleet management.”

This installation is supported by POM Vlaams-Brabant, following a competitive tender to identify projects benefiting innovation in the Logistics Industry in the region. Jacques Devos, Logistics Manager at POM Vlaams-Brabant commented: “This project is a prototype of how innovative technologies create new opportunities in logistic processes. With this implementation of 'smart logistics', Flemish-Brabant/Flanders demonstrates to be a top region for logistics."
