Jan. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- At the February meeting of The South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) in Pietermaritzburg Bryce Biggs will be talking on “Some implications of the further expansion of cyberspace (including cybercrime, cyber terrorism, and cyber warfare) for international trade and relations.”

Nearly 2 billion people currently have Internet access and some 500 million of them are on Facebook. So what happens in cyberspace increasingly impacts us all.

The talk is particularly topical given recent events involving such diverse events as the Wikileaks disclosures and the Stuxnet worm attack which has apparently damaged the Iranian nuclear facility at Natanz.

Bryce will provide an overview of cyberspace developments. This overview will include the increase in cyber-attacks by countries – or their hackers – on the IT and communication infrastructure of other countries. The first known cyber-attack took place back in 1982. Recent years have seen a steady escalation in such attacks. Important questions will be discussed – e.g. when does cyber aggression become real war?

Bryce is a graduate of the University of Natal (Kwazulu-Natal) and the Cranfield School of Management in the UK as well as a member of the World Future Society.

The talk is being presented in conjunction with the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business. It takes place on Wednesday 3rd February 2011 at 2:30 at Chamber House, Royal Showgrounds, Pietermaritzburg. For more information on attending call Lorna Jones on 033 345 2747 033 345 2747      end_of_the_skype_highlighting. Bryce can be contacted on 082 800 7545 or via biggs@associates.co.za.
