By: BIG ARTS A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia follows Greg and Kate, two recent empty-nesters, who have recently moved to Manhattan. As Kate's career picks up and Greg's winds down, things get interesting when Greg brings home a stray dog–a frisky young blonde named Sylvia. She quickly becomes the object of his misplaced affection, and a definite ‘bone’ of contention between Greg and his wife. Sylvia brings together a true all-star Florida Rep cast that includes Michelle Damato in the title role, Carrie Lund, Chris Clavelli, and Gordon McConnell. “A real tail-wagger,” Drew Sterwald, lifestyles writer for the The Fort Myers News-Press wrote, “It’s Michelle Damato who steals scenes and hearts as the Labradoodle who becomes the object of the man’s affections. Though she wiggles her behind, scratches at fleas and jumps on furniture, Damato also portrays more than the obvious canine characteristics. Her facial expressions and body language convey some of the psyche, if you will—the intense need for human approval and attention and the ability to intuit when the affection is not returned. It’s a remarkably engaging performance.” Nancy Stetson, Florida Weekly’s arts reporter, raved, “You'll fall head over heels for Sylvia!” Although a delightful and funny romp, its adult theme may not be suitable for the younger members of the family. Tickets are general admission $36, student $15. Sylvia Sponsor Linda and John Kramer with John and Marjorie Madden, Supporter Dan and Shirley Valentine.
