Jan. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- "Sudden Cardiac Arrest: Not Necessarily Fatal,” a free public presentation and discussion forum, will be held Feb. 3 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Smullin Health Education Center on the Rogue Valley Medical Center (http://www.rvmc.org) campus.

Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for an estimated 325,000 lives each year. The rate of sudden cardiac arrest patients surviving with good neurological function at hospital discharge varies throughout the United States.
The best survival rates occur in communities where hospital, public, and emergency services have created an effective system for the detection and treatment of patients with sudden cardiac arrest.

Presenters at the upcoming talk will show what other communities have done to improve sudden cardiac arrest survival rates and how a similar program might be developed in Jackson County.

Presenters will be Charles Lick, MD, of Allina Medical Transportation and Robert Niskanen, MSEE, of Take Heart America.

The event is free, but registration is required and space is limited. To register, please call (888) 688-4920 or go online at www.rvmc.org/classes-events.

The Asante Community Health Education program is pleased to offer this presentation in cooperation with the State of Jefferson EMS Conference, Ashland Community Hospital, and Providence Medford Medical Center. This presentation is supported by a grant from the John and Nora Darby Fund, and is sponsored by Asante Community Health Education.
