By: Audie Fellas Hair, which first opened on Columbia Center Boulevard in 2007, has added a second salon on 27th Avenue in Kennewick. Owners Korey and Chris Barber of Pasco opened the new operation Friday. They said they never considered opening anywhere but Kennewick. "It's one of the most rapidly growing, most progressive cities in Washington. Since we're one of Kennewick's most progressive businesses, we've decided to up the ante in establishing another salon that will give the men of the Tri-Cities the opportunity to get their hair cut in a masculine environment at an affordable price," said Korey Barber, general manager of both salons. "We're neither a foo-foo 'spa destination,' nor a unisex franchise," she said. "We're a very down-to-earth salon catering to men and boys, with lots of leather chairs, bottled water available, golf magazines and the best staff of stylists in town." The salons also feature a mini putting station, an Xbox 360 and personal TVs at each stylist station so guys can watch SportsCenter. "Men love the televisions," Yet she's quick to say the salons don't really have a sports theme. The aim is to give patrons something other to do than read the same old barber shop magazines, which was her husband's idea. "He travels for business. We both have other jobs," she said. "As he traveled, he kept an eye open for investment opportunities and thought a hair salon had possibilities. We saw a couple of different chains but didn't want to be another Great Clips." Despite their name -- it's just a coincidence they opened hair salons -- neither of the Barbers cut hair. Korey Barber works for the Federal Aviation Administration in the control tower at the Tri-Cities Airport. Chris Barber works for Biomat USA as general manager for blood plasma centers in the Northwest. The couple have seven stylists at the two salons and have openings for more. "We hand-pick our stylists and emphasize customer service," Korey Barber said. "Our stylists take the time to treat our customers as individuals, not hurrying through their haircut to get to the next client." "Chris calls us the Costco of hair salons," she said. "We have quality for a good price. A haircut and styling, including scalp rub, shampoo, steamed towel and a bottle of water, is $19.95." The salons also offer a variety of other services -- check them out on the website, http://fellas- Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. Both locations are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday-Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
