By: ALRA (The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts) This British drama school, with campuses in London and the North of England, offers NCDT-accredited acting training to Bachelors and Masters levels. Completion of either the Three Year Acting or the Postgraduate Acting course entitles each ALRA student to Equity membership*. ALRA is a partner college of the University of Greenwich and both degrees are validated by them. Drama training at ALRA is both inspiring and intensively vocational. Full-time working hours are packed with Voice, Movement and Technique classes, including tuition in Musicianship and Stage Combat. ALRA’s particular focus is on Acting for Camera; it is the only British drama school to teach Acting for Camera from the beginning of the First Year. ALRA also prides itself on close links with the industry. Only working professionals are invited to direct ALRA productions. Each student leaves the school with a short film to present to the industry. Three Year Acting students also leave with a TV presenting reel. Casting directors and agents visit regularly for practice audition panels and talks, and attend ALRA’s West End Showcases. ALRA graduates go on to become familiar faces in all media, with graduates starring at the National Theatre and regularly on the BBC in 2010. Recent feature film work includes Four Lions and Captain America. If you want to audition for one of ALRA’s courses, you must first apply online at www.alra.co.uk, and read our Audition Guidelines carefully. *For US citizens, this leads to full membership on gaining your post-study visa. For work in the US, British Equity recommends its members for membership of American Actors’ Equity.
