British Sailboat HUGO BOSS will Race On in Barcelona World Race Without Its Skipper

Alex Thompson, skipper on the sailboat HUGO BOSS, will remain in the UK with his son due to an emergency appendectomy on 29th December.

Jan. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- When it comes to sailing, British Skipper Alex Thompson was looking forward to nothing more than being on the water during the Barcelona World Race. Thompson made the difficult decision to stay home in the UK with his partner Kate to closely monitor their son Oscar's heart condition called coarctation of the aorta. Oscar born on the 7th of January with unfortunate health problems since the beginning of his life has the support of his parents by his side.

Thompson himself had an emergency appendectomy on 29th December, and was hoping he could recover in time to sail with his team on HUGO BOSS.

HUGO BOSS will continue in the reace with substitute skippers Wouter Verbraak (NED) and Andy Meiklejohn (NZL).

Stewart Hosford, Team Director said this morning “As a team we feel relieved that Oscar is being so well looked after and his condition is more stable. We fully understand and support Alex’s decision not to join HUGO BOSS as planned. We have every confidence that Andy and Wouter will do us proud”
