Jan. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- In a rare, private meeting with select Silicon Valley Startups at the Sunnyvale Plug and Play Technology Center on Saturday, Federal Chief Technology Officer of the United States (CTO) Aneesh Chopra met with select flagship startups and CEOs to discuss ways of promoting the entrepreneurial spirit in practical ways, across the United States. Chopra met with Vipin Jain of Retrevo.com, Ankit Agarwal of Micello, Mohan Giridharadas of Lean Taas, and Art Norins of Nor1.

“As Federal CTO, one of Aneesh Chopra’s primary objectives is to create new jobs,” says Saeed Amidi, President of Plug and Play Tech Center. “Over a thousand new jobs were created last year through Plug and Play startups alone. When Aneesh heard about our success, he wanted to know what it would take to get Plug and Play startup incubators in places like Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Washington D.C.”

“The work that I do, largely is about government as convener,” says Chopra, “as in, the original concept of government, with a lower case ‘g.’ If we come together as neighbors and friends I think we’re going to make a lot of things happen. That’s the spirit of this, that’s why I’m here, that’s why I’m happy to celebrate what Plug and Play is doing. I want to understand how may Plug and Play centers we can have in the United States. I want to understand how many other eco-systems can connect back to the Silicon Valley. I want to have that same conversation in Detroit, Cleveland, Florida, Maine, you name it.”

While touring the Plug and Play facilities, Chopra took time to meet with key startups including the consumer electronics shopping and review site, Retrevo.com. “We couldn’t agree more with Mr. Chopra’s approach,” says Retrevo CEO Vipin Jain. “Startups are amazing places full of talent, passion and optimism for a better future for cities and communities across the country. Startups not only find solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges, but they are also a significant growth engine for job creation, as Mr. Chopra states. Retrevo focuses on helping people find, buy and make the most out of consumer electronics. Mr. Chopra is very keen about using analytics to solve difficult problems on a national level and the fact that Retrevo uses A.I. to simplify product research for shoppers immediately resonated with him when we explained to him what Retrevo was all about. Mr. Chopra then promised to give Retrevo a try for some of his personal electronics purchases. When he asked for a recommendation for a good Blu-ray player, we recommended the Sony S570, as he said he was having trouble finding one that he liked. Overall, we were very impressed that Mr. Chopra both connected with everyone, and was able to keep up with the fast-passed techno-speak that so often prevails in a startup. He definitely won the hearts and minds of the people at Plug and Play.”

“This is everything that I expected it to be and even beyond,” Chopra said, “mostly because the people that I’ve met. In every single one of their stories, I saw connections to opportunities.”
