He has been able to conceive and raise his work to pure aesthetic and artistic expression.
Considering his priority is the definition of his personal style and identity, rather than the other exponents of the so called “Japanese school”, he tends to be stable and recognisable through the evolution of his collections. The necessary elements of innovation and change are introduced in an intellectual course that constantly interprets and elaborates the suggestions offered by the reality into which he is plunged. The urban spaces of huge modern metropolis; a hyper-technological and urgent modernity; the powerful and deep-rooted Japanese traditions: these are the emotional and rational sources of Yamamoto’s poetics.
The result is a style that might be defined as “abstract haute couture”, with a strictly conceptual relation between shape and creation, idea and work; with an extremely precise tailor’s cut. His materials are incredible combinations resulting from the oldest and most secret Japanese techniques, magnificent wool gabardines or superb crêpes de Chine. Colours are always given a small space, knowingly sacrificed for the sake of formal complexity and audacious tailoring. Far beyond its original function, each garment acquires the solidity of a strong architecture to be worn, it becomes the structure of an interiority that is made external and public and that, for this reason, needs a large amount of understanding and awareness.
