Peru Infrastructure Report 2011: New research report available at Fast Market Research

Fast Market Research recommends "Peru Infrastructure Report 2011" from Business Monitor International, now available

Jan. 13, 2011 - PRLog -- Peru's construction market has been one of the least affected by the global economic downturn. The country has continued to generate strong sector growth, even while growth in the wider economy stagnated last year. In 2009, Peru's construction market underwent growth in real terms of 6.1%. Even though this was down from 16.5% in 2008, this was, nonetheless, an extremely strong showing, as construction markets in most countries around the world experienced significant contractions in net output. Public sector support underpinned overall construction sector growth in Peru last year, as the infrastructure market underwent growth of 29% in real terms, offsetting relatively lacklustre private sector-generated activity.

* In 2010, construction sector activity has picked up once again, thanks to a revival of the private sector in the country. We estimate that the construction sector as a whole will undergo growth in real terms of 18.9% in 2010. This is on the back of the sector registering real growth of 19.2% in the first six months of the year.
* Underpinning the sector, Peru's Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) has launched the country's first infrastructure fund, with total commitments of US$460mn.

The afore-mentioned fund will invest in Peru's infrastructure in order to boost the competitiveness of the Andean country, which is currently a substantial barrier to realising economic growth potential. The Brookfield Peru Infrastructure Fund, so-called because Brookfield Asset Management was appointed fund manager in September 2009, will target investments both in transport and energy and utilities infrastructure. The fund is formed of contributions from Peru's four private pension funds, a small amount from the Andean Development Corporation (CAF), Cofide - Peru's state owned bank, and finally Brookfield itself. The fund was established by the MEF and will be managed by Brookfield.

We anticipate construction sector growth will slow from 2011, in part reflecting the high base provided by several years of strong expansion. This said, growth should remain respectable. We anticipate that the construction industry value will grow by just over 10% in 2011, before slowing further to an annual rate of between 6.7% and 7.6% across the period 2012-2015.
