Follow on Google News | Optimal Temperatures For Underfloor HeatingThe human foot could be called the body’s thermostat. In areas with cold winters human beings have been concerned about the floor temperature since ancient times.
A basic temperature of 21 degree C on the floor surface gives a comfort feeling. According to the International Standard Association ISO 7730, the most comfortable range is between 19 – 26 degree C, but underfloor heating systems may be designed for 29 degree C. It is acceptable to design with higher temperatures in specific areas such as bathrooms and limited areas adjacent to walls. The design factor determining the surface temperature of the floor is the sensitivity of the human foot. It is therefore important that an underfloor heating system is designed to ensure that the surface temperature does not exceed 29 degree C. A higher temperature is perceived as uncomfortable. On the other hand such temperature are unusual in underfloor heating systems and considered a waste of energy. Different floor covering materials have different temperature limitations. For example, for parquet it is recommended a maximum temperature of 27 degree C. The underfloor heating effect has to be dimensioned so that the calculated temperature drop across the loop of pipe is not higher than 10- 15 degree C.
