ENISE implements a VR system proposed by Immersion using TechViz visualization solutions

Jan. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- The National Engineering School of Saint Etienne, ENISE, focussing on mechanical engineering and civil engineering, has recently developed a new subject area, the sensory engineering. To accomplish the main missions of ENISE, which are training, research and valorisation of local technological and engineering projects, the sensory engineering has a very important role, especially for the valorisation mission of the school. It consists in supporting local industrial actors in the validation and valorisation of their technological projects, whether they concern project reviews, ergonomic validations or industrial flow simulations. For example, a machine manufacturing mechanical parts of an engine would need a prototype validation for each part and also for their assembly. The virtual reality through virtual prototypes makes it possible with a high level of simulation and anticipation of efficiency.
In this purpose, ENISE needed a performing virtual reality system, able to support their partner in their valorisation needs.
ENISE has chosen a VR system implemented by Immersion, the European specialist of visual simulation solutions and of customized VR systems. For ENISE, Immersion proposed an "immersive table" as a VR system. Two screens Stewart Filmscreen (2 meters wide by 1 meter high) have been installed in an "L" on which a passive stereoscopic image (Infitec technology) is projected in full HD with 4 projectors projectiondesign.The system has also been equipped with a haptic arm Virtuose brand Haption and a tracking system Natural Point. The platform needed a visualization solution that would allow ENISE to display their usual 3D applications without the complex process of data conversion and with an interactive frame rate, even for the biggest 3D datasets.
The visualization solution is TechViz software, allowing the full HD projection in real time, in 1:1 scale and without any data conversion or data loss. TechViz software has been certified with more than 150 applications and thus was able to work directly in their native application, like CATIA, Solidworks and Solidedge. They were able to review their virtual prototypes using very large 3D datasets with a high frame rate.
