Jan. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Fantasy author, Wendy Raven McNair, prepares for another February book tour to share her writing experiences as an African American author. Black History Month, a federally recognized celebration of African American accomplishments has long acknowledged black authors for their contributions to literature. Asleep and Awake, books 1 and 2 of McNair’s fantasy trilogy featuring African American teen super beings are available on amazon.com and at book stores on request. McNair is currently working on Ascend, the final title in her trilogy, and recently created a Youtube channel featuring a character from that novel named Clumsy CurlZ.

“Black History Month is an incredible opportunity to learn about the diverse achievements of African Americans so I feel privileged to take part by speaking to audiences about my life as an author. Usually people are already familiar with well known authors like Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, Alice Walker, and Ralph Ellison however more are becoming familiar with black fantasy authors like L. A. Banks, Tananarive Due, and Octavia Butler who won the MacArthur ‘genius’ award for her writing. I’m proud to be writing in the same genre as these talented authors.” ~McNair

Speaking to students is an honor McNair values. Her previous book tours have included private and public middle and high schools in Fulton and Cobb counties of the Atlanta area. McNair is proud to be based in this region with its rich culture in African American history and the home of Martin Luther King, Jr., a prominent figure in American history.

“Visiting schools in this area during Black History Month to share my writing experience is very rewarding. I’ve already confirmed Barber Middle school for a first time author visit on February 4th and Black Star, a private school, has requested a return visit in February. I’m also in the process of scheduling other schools and public speaking engagements. I’ve been invited to include Dekalb county schools in my book tour and I’m working on scheduling speaking engagements outside of Georgia as well.” ~ McNair

McNair has presented to single class-sized groups as well as auditorium-sized audiences. Her largest group included the entire 7th grade class of Mabry Middle school, over 300 students. Her presentations address the writing and publishing process, graphic design, and her journey to becoming an author. Her goal is to inspire as well as educate her audience.
