The non-profit announces its “All Hands on Deck” campaign aimed at spreading awareness of the national observance. January 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of National Mentoring Month, a national media campaign aimed at increasing awareness of the need for mentors. In addition to training 20 new volunteers in January, CASA/Prince George’s County will participate in FOX 5 Mentoring Monday on January 10, 2011 and attend the 2011 National Mentoring Summit on January 25, 2011 being held at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. Ann Marie Binsner, Executive Director, said CASA volunteers help get abused and neglected children into safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible. “Our goal is to educate our volunteers on the very powerful, positive impact that mentors can have in a child’s life and to guide them in their role as advocates when making recommendations for the children they serve. Since our volunteers spend 10-15 hours each month getting to know these children and the circumstances that brought them into care, they play a very critical role in helping identify appropriate services and additional supports for them.” To get more information about becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate please visit our website at www.speakforthechildren.org or call 301-209-0491. # # # About CASA/Prince George's County: Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)/Prince George’s County recruits and trains volunteers to advocate for the needs of children living in foster care.
