By: BIG ARTS Their program will include Fauré’s Andante from the Sonata No. 2 for Cello and Piano in G minor, Op. 117, Beethoven’s Sonata for Cello and Piano in C major, Op. 102, No. 1, Debussy’ Pianist Julio Elizalde is a member of the N-E-W Trio, which has won not only the Plowman Award in 2007, but also Grand Prize at the prestigious Fischoff in 2008. The N-E-W Trio appeared at BIG ARTS in January, 2010. In 2007, Elizalde won The Juilliard School concerto competition. He is a broadly recognized chamber musician, appearing at many festivals, including Taos and Caramoor, with such performers as violinists Pamela Frank and Donald Weilerstein. Cellist Bonnie Hampton was a student of Pablo Casals, a founding member of the Naumburg award-winning Francesco Trio, and performed as part of the Hampton-Schwartz Duo with her late husband, Nathan Schwartz. She has worked with many composers, including Carter, Copland, Kodaly, and Milhaud. She has played as guest artist with chamber groups such as The Juilliard, Guarneri, Cleveland, and Mendelssohn string quartets, and she appeared at Ravinia and Santa Fe. She taught at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music from 1972 to 2002, then joined The Juilliard faculty.
