Jan. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Introducing Dancehall Singjay Gemsto:n!
We have in recent times, written about a noticeable increase in the number of local professionals/entrepreneurs that have entered the competitive ring of aspiring Reggae and Dancehall  every now and then we see one, two or a few emerge.  We have heard about lawyers, chartered accountants, successful entrepreneurs and recently a Resident Magistrate! New Image Promotions introduces Nickisha ‘Gemsto:n’ Blake, a seemingly bashful individual who has already obtain a first degree and currently pursuing a PHD in Linguistics, speaks 5 languages, lectures occasionally at the University of the West Indies and currently working on a project that involves translating the Bible in patois supervised by University Professor Hubert Devonish.
Gemsto:n is intense, she admits that she is sexual and love to explore femininity in her songs however she does not want to be defined by simply listening to her songs. Gemsto:n emulate Lady Saw and cites her own personal style as a Dancehall/Hip-Hop fusion.  When asked if she chose specific topics to sing about her reply was, “no I really don’t, art imitates life and life imitate art sometimes you can sing about what you see as well as create something about life.”
It is a fact that there are other articulate female artistes in the business.  Which means that Gemsto:n personal achievement is not unique so when asked what she will bring to the table to make her stand out against her competitors, her response was, “like Doctor Donna Hope and Carolyn Cooper who inspires me, I will not be selling Dancehall through its lyrical content but rather through the culture and literary side.”  Gemsto:n preliminary findings of a study she did on Dancehall was so well written that it was published in an academic journal called Sargasso published in Puerto Rico and distributed in universities worldwide.
Gemsto:n’s most popular single is a song she actually did for the university called, “Writing Jamaican the Jamaican Way” this song was written for the sole purpose of teaching persons how to use the Jamaican writing system.  Her current single is a song entitled, ‘Tek Wey Mi Luv' featuring Asante Amen which has been getting some good rotation on radio stations in London and France.  Gemsto:n first major performance was on STING and she expects to perform on other major local shows.  For 2011 her ultimate goal is “to come out and get people to know who Gemsto:n really is.”

Sevad Current Release ‘Addicted’ a Potential Hit!
(Kingston, Jamaica 01-05-11)   Ever since the release of his current single, “Addicted” Steven “Sevad’ Davis has been getting the thumbs up from radio jocks, music lovers and well wishers alike.  The single, a creative hip-hop/reggae fusion first got some media attention by popular jocks, ZJ Liquid and Bambino on local ZIP 103FM station before requests started pouring in from other local and international djs for download.  ‘Addicted’ the artiste explained, is a song that was created instantaneously upon hearing the rhythm and the end result is impressive.
High points on this track are the clarity in the artiste voice, his unique style and sound plus a trendy rhythm to compliment some catchy lyrics of course the chords are on key and the mix and mastering on point. One can quickly identify a potential hit when an artiste is able to capture the attention of fans almost immediately upon hearing a song.  Fans are usually attracted to a particular sound whether by the artiste or the rhythm.  Being able to manipulate skills so often used by popular artistes Vybz Kartel and Movado on a track suggests that Sevad has set a high standard for his self and it is left to be seen if he can first get to the top and when does, able to hold on.  Sevad’s music are available for download, to purchase directly from Sevad’s Store click http://www.reverbnation.com/store/index/artist_235573 Songs available include Give It Up, Gimmi Di Lovin feat Teknykal, Addicted and Never Look Back.
