Jan. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Mr. Kesterson will discuss the issues that have confronted different clients; each requiring different designs of key management services. “Properly encrypted data is essentially in a safe that no amount of dynamite will open.  If you lose the key to that encrypted the data, you've lost the data," said Mr. Kesterson.  "I'm particularly focused on solutions that minimize the risk of unilateral actions occurring, including encrypting data by an employee or application without providing access to some authorized entity within the enterprise."

In addition to covering the necessary basics of encryption that are needed to understand a more detailed review of the aspects of key management, he will share his expertise on separation of duties, dual control, key generation, key deployment, key protection, and key recovery.

“We are excited to share with the Phoenix community not only the basics of encryption but also how to address one of the most challenging problems associated with encryption - protecting the keys,” said Cindy Donaldson, partner and director of the Information Risk Management practice for Terra Verde Services and founding President of the Phoenix Chapter of ISSA in 1999.  “This presentation provides the Phoenix community with the opportunity to hear one of our senior security experts share valuable information that can help not only protect data but also support compliance efforts associated with PCI, HIPAA, GLBA, and SOX.”

Mr. Kesterson consults to Terra Verde Services clients on encryption, key management, legal authenticity, and tokenization.  Throughout his 40-year career, he has spoken at many information security and legal conferences including the RSA conference.  He has chaired several international standardization committees producing fundamental standards that are at the heart of deployed directory services, and the public key infrastructure (PKI) that supports SSL and digital signatures. For digital signature, encryption, and associated security areas such as privacy, he has worked with the American Bar Association, international, federal, and state agencies, and within industry sectors such as banking and healthcare, leading to the adoption of laws and regulations, e.g. E-sign, and HIPAA.
