Foreign Talents Admitted to SMU Through ICON+'s SAT Bridging Program

ICON+, a leading test preparation centre in Singapore, had an especially eventful year, as there were a lot of programs it participated in - some big, some small, but all equally important. They were blessed to have a plethora of projects awarded to them in 2010, one notable being the SMU SAT Bridging Program.

ICON+ has been working closely with SMU for the past few years on their SAT Bridging Program. The program was specifically started for high caliber foreign students who wished to study at SMU but did not possess an official SAT score – one of the admissions criteria for foreign students. These bridging students hail mainly from countries like China, Indonesia, Vietnam and Myanmar.

The SAT Bridging program normally lasts from January until April, after which the students take the official SAT test conducted by College Board in May. ICON+ would specially design a course curriculum that addresses the foreign students’ needs. Oftentimes, the course is customized even further. For example, the majority of students already score higher on the math section, so ICON+ teachers emphasize the Critical Reading and Writing test sections in the course curriculum. ICON+’s mission is to prepare students to the highest level possible for their official SAT tests. Aside from the class and homework handouts that the ICON+ Research and Development Team design, students sit for quite a number of SAT mock tests proctored by in-house staff. These mock tests simulate the stressful conditions of an official test, helping students gain greater awareness of what to expect on D-day.
