Jan. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- KEARNY, NJ - Killing Horse Records will be putting on their one year anniversary show on Friday, January 14th at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ.  The show will feature the complete roster of bands on Killing Horse Records and will serve as the label’s first ever showcase.  The bands featured at the show will be Secret Country, Invisible Lines, No Pasaran and Ben Franklin.

Killing Horse Records was founded by friends Ryan Gross and Mike Sylvia out of Sylvia’s apartment in Kearny, NJ.  Both Kearny natives started the label for the simple reason of wanting a vehicle to release their friends’ music. They approached their close friends in Secret Country, known for their wild live shows, who had been playing around the area and were about to put out their first full length release.  The release of Secret Country’s Women, Whiskey and Nightlife served as Killing Horse’s first release, and in a few months Killing Horse put out the Wise Up! EP by Invisible Lines, which was named one of Jersey Beat Fanzine’s top EP’s of 2010.  Noise-punk rockers, No Pasaran joined Killing Horse next and are currently planning a 2011 release.  The most recent addition to the Killing Horse Records family was Brooklyn based Ben Franklin who is set to release the single Urgency in February of 2011.

Secret Country’s songs are bulging with harmonized hooks, searing riffs, and outlandish fiddlin’. Their frenzied live show is a fantastic blur of dancing, drinking, sweat, camaraderie, and laughter.  Invisible Lines is another Kearny band that has broken into the north Jersey music scene with their blend of melodic rock that employs the intensely dynamic and danceable rhythms of post-punk. No Pasaran’s experimental rock is both abrasive and catchy. They marry angular guitar riffs and fuzzed out muscular bass with schizophrenic drums all the while delivering catchy, rhythmic lyrics that harken back to bands like Gang of Four and Wire.  Ben Franklin plays incendiary rock music with the inventive zeal of their mischievous namesake. Recently upgrading from a trio to a four-piece, their music (which they call “Gonzo Rock”) is a hyperactive whirlwind of passion, comedy, sarcasm, and farce.
