Dec. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- With Christmas over for another year and the dawn of the new year approaching, the UK’s leading discount and voucher code website asked 1,103 people across the UK what their New Year’s resolution will be for 2011.

The research, conducted by www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, found that weight loss was the most popular New Year’s resolution; with 24% of respondents labelling this as their resolution for 2011. Cutting back on alcohol was also a popular New Year’s resolution amongst the respondents, with 19% admitting that this is their hope for the New Year.
According to the results of the poll by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, the top 10 most common New Year’s resolutions for 2011 are as follows:

1.       Lose weight – 24%
2.       Drink less alcohol – 19%
3.       Join a gym -14%
4.      Quit smoking – 11%
5.      See friends/ family more - 8%
6.      Change job/career - 6%
7.      Commit to a relationship – 4%
8.      Save money for large purchase, ie. house/ car/ etc– 3%
9.      Stress/ worry less – 2%
      10.   Be more spontaneous – 1%

The respondents who selected ‘other’ when stating their New Year’s resolution were invited to stipulate what they resolved to do in 2011. One respondent to the poll admitted that their New Year’s resolution is to ‘move to a warmer country’ in the New Year; whilst another resolved to ‘finally pop the question to their girlfriend.’

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, commented on the findings:
“It is clear from the results that living a healthier lifestyle is the main aim for most next year; with losing weight, drinking less alcohol, joining a gym and quitting smoking being the top four popular resolutions. The New Year provides a great time to start these new health routines, particularly after the indulgence that Christmas brings.”

He continued:

“Whilst many will make New Year’s resolutions this year, it’s likely that only a few will actually stick to them. Good intentions are always rife with the hope that New Year brings, but it takes a strong will to stick to them all year; particularly when the novelty of a new health routine wears off! Some, like saving money for big purchases, can be easier to stick to. This is a fantastic resolution to make, and we can help those looking to save money on purchases wherever possible. As long as you make your resolution achievable, you’re much more likely to succeed.”
