Arkansas Circuit Court Judge L.T. Simes II Swearing In Ceremony

Dec. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- ATLANTA,GA-On Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 11 a.m., Judge L.T. Simes II will be sworn in to his third successive, six year term as Circuit Judge in the First Judicial District of Arkansas by the Honorable Ann Hudson at the Phillips County Court House in Helena, Arkansas.

Known as the “champion for justice” in the state, in November 2010, Judge Simes was re-elected without opposition after a one year suspension by a divided State Supreme Court and despite allegations of misconduct made in 2006 that are pending before the Supreme Court.  Earlier this year, Judge Simes filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit against the Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission (AJDDC) seeking to enjoin that agency from continuing to prosecute a judicial complaint  made in 2006 involving his discipline of an attorney in his court.

Judge Simes’ struggle for personal justice and fairness as a judge continues a path he began in 1975 as one of the few African-Americans to practice law in the Arkansas Delta and one of the first Black Circuit Judges to integrate the judiciary in Eastern Arkansas after a series of civil rights lawsuits.  Aside from his 13 years as a Circuit Judge, he also served as a Municipal Judge in Lakeview, Arkansas and was elected and appointed to a number of local and state positions.  Judge Simes is also a successful businessman and a gospel recording artist.  His latest CD, “Holy Spirit”, was released earlier this year.
