Dec. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- The Winston-Salem Foundation has awarded a grant of $100,000 to Lutheran Services for the Aging (LSA) and its Keeping the Promise capital campaign.  The gift will support the construction and equipping of Trinity Glen, a skilled care nursing home to be built in Winston-Salem on Water Works Road next to the YMCA.  The gift is made from funds provided by the Harriet Taylor Flynt Fund and a contribution from Salemtowne continuing care retirement community.

Lutheran Services for the Aging President Ted W. Goins, Jr. stated, “We are extremely grateful to the Foundation for this gift and equally grateful for the continuing support the Foundation has shown for our efforts to care for Forsyth County elders.”

Trinity Glen is one of two nursing homes LSA will build in Forsyth County to replace its Lutheran Home – Winston-Salem on Old Walkertown Road.  The other home, Trinity Elms, to be built next to LSA’s Elms at Tanglewood, Clemmons, is scheduled for construction in 2013.

Goins added, “We are also pleased that in such uncertain economic times, we can support the community by generating job growth and additional economic activity for the citizens of Forsyth County.”

The Winston-Salem Foundation is a community foundation that supports charitable programs in the greater Forsyth County area.  Founded in 1919 by Colonel Francis Fries with a $1,000 gift, it now administers over 1,200 funds and had total custodial assets of $244 million at the end of 2009.  In 2009, the Foundation granted more than $17 million to charitable causes, nearly $2 million of which was in competitive grants.

LSA is a Salisbury-based senior care organization serving elders across North Carolina through nursing homes, retirement communities, assisted living residences, and adult day services.  Its Keeping the Promise campaign will raise a portion of the funds needed for the construction of four new nursing homes, renovations to existing homes, and the expansion of community-based services.  To date, the campaign has raised over $2 million of its $5 million goal.
