Jonathan Deutsch Encaustic Painting Solo Exhibition

Dec. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- UNION, NJ (December 19, 2010) — Les Malamut Art Gallery is pleased to present Jonathan Deutsch Encaustic Painting, a solo exhibition which will run from January 4 to February 26th.  The opening reception will be on Saturday, January 8th from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.

The exhibit features an exciting collection of new encautsic paintings by Jonathan Deutsch. This will be the artist’s first solo show at the gallery, and his largest exhibition to date. Deutsch’s painting has evolved in both form and scope over the last 30 years. In his newest body of work he delves into themes of relationships, as well as how the minds eye interprets and reacts to images.

In these paintings, Deutsch works in layers of wax.  The encaustic technique dates back thousands of years.  The ancient Greeks and Egyptians are believed to have been the originators of the process.  Essentially, this method of painting utilizes molten beeswax, damar resin and pigments which are applied and fused in multiple layers to a rigid, porous surface.
