Dec. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Certified nursing assistant staff that are presently working in health care fields such as nursing homes and hospitals are declining in numbers and alarm bells are ringing with the Australian Government.

Managers of health service districts have recognized for quite some time that the present pool of casual nursing assistants are forming an ever increasing aging workforce.  This in itself presents challenges in finding staff to work shifts required in hospitals and nursing homes.

Terry from http://aincertification.com reports receiving inquiries from employers rather then students who wish to train as certified nursing assistants. Terry goes on to say, "there is not a day that goes past that we receive employer inquiries to sign up students during their training. It seems employers will go to any lengths to secure staff to fill their shifts and meet the standards of health care".

It has become apparent that employers are looking for employees who are fit and healthy that are able to attend for shifts. With the aging work force at the moment, many nursing assistants call in sick or are not able to attend to work as they are looking after an ill partner or family member.

Another challenge for nurse practitioners and nurse unit managers is that staff under their control are receiving work related injuries due to their age and fitness level. This has placed a huge burden on workers compensation claims and the extra resources required to manage staff on benefits.

With the high unemployment rate, job seekers are being urged to consider training as a certified nursing assistant to fill the gap in this high demand field of nursing. Employment agencies are reporting little to no interest from young job seekers to consider a career as a assistant in nursing.

This is all about to change with subsidies being offered from the Government unemployment benefit agency and accredited Job Placement agencies. Funds are being put aside and are now available to unemployed persons to commence their on the job training and campus studies.

Taking this one step further is the innovative approach of nursing homes to offer paid employment to students who are training to become certified assistant nurses. Terry stated that he receives weekly inquiries from Nurse Unit Managers for staff to work in their nursing home and that they themselves will guide the trainees through their training.

Nursing homes will employ trainees under a training program, pay them the award allowances and provide on the job training under registered and enrolled nurses.  The only provisions is that on completion of their training that students stay on at the establishment for a short period of time or enter into full time employment contracts.

As can be seen the cries are long and loud for young fit and healthy persons to train as a certified nursing assistant. Employers need and demand full time staff to fill these positions and are no longer relying on the casual pool.

With hourly wages of between fifteen dollars to twenty dollars basic hours worked, to overtime and shift allowances, this career choice has become somewhat of a niche in employment opportunities.

If your a mother or a father wanting to return to the workforce after raising your family, long term unemployed, about to leave school or simply want a career change, then now is the time to consider becoming an assistant nurse.

Training can be completed through hospitals and nursing homes, accredited nurse training organizations or online training where you study by correspondence. There are set hours of practical study and often this practical work will mean being paid an hourly rate in some institutions.

The examination to receive certification consists of a theory examination of sixty to seventy multiple choice questions and a practical examination. Both exams will be based on the everyday duties a nursing assistant performs and often the answers to each question is based on the students working knowledge.
