Plano Chamber Celebrates 65 Years of Community Partnerships

Dec. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- Plano, TX - December 20, 2010 – The Plano Chamber of Commerce celebrates 65 years of community partnerships during its ”Plano First” annual meeting and luncheon January 13, 2011.  The luncheon will be held from 11:30am-1:00pm at the Collin College Conference Center, Room AA135  2800 E. Spring Creek Pkwy, in Plano, TX.  

The Plano Chamber plans to focus on the community partnerships that have helped to grow Plano businesses and make Plano a fantastic place to live and work.  One of those connections includes showing how Collin College is enhancing chamber members through business training.  For instance, Collin College provided continuous improvement training assistance for Plano-based Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS).

“Collin College is a fantastic partner to business in Plano and throughout the county. Their support has helped us to develop and roll-out important training programs that have driven efficiency improvements throughout our operations and delivered value to our customers and consumers,” said Will McDade, vice president of rapid continuous improvement for DPS.

The luncheon will also mark the historic founding of the chamber.  Jamie Schell, of   A. R. Schell & Son Agency, represents the third generation of his family to be a member of the Plano Chamber.  His grandfather, A.R. Schell, Jr. was a founding business member of the Plano Chamber.  ”While he was Mayor my grandfather was among a handful of people who started the Plano Chamber.  Together with my father and I, we represent three generations that have been actively involved in the Chamber, helping it partner with businesses for 65 years.  It’s simply the best business association I know of.”

The luncheon will include artwork and photographs depicting Plano through the eyes of its residents.  “It takes a lot of people to make our community work,” says Camille Ussery, Chair-elect of the Plano Chamber of Commerce Board.  “We think by broadening our community awareness, we can make decisions for the better good of all.”
