Aderma used as best practice in an evaluation to deliver a cost effective solution to pressure ulcer

Dec. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- The evaluation at a large 78 bed nursing home involved training all staff in using best practices to deliver a cost effective solution to pressure ulcer reduction. The training encompassed caring for the older person’s skin, and involved sharing knowledge about the use of appropriate barrier creams, soap replacements and pressure relieving devices. Aderma® was identified as best practice in pressure relieving devices and was used in conjunction with the chosen barrier cream and soap substitute.

At the start of the evaluation 14% of the patients had an ongoing category 4 pressure ulcer with a daily treatment cost of £121; also over 33% had a history of pressure damage and were at very high risk of re-ulceration. These figures are in line with national averages. During the evaluation however, with the use of Aderma the average daily cost per patient to prevent a pressure ulcer was just 37p and none of the patients re-ulcerated .
