Toner Ninja releases some facts about laser printers.
Laser printers can be considered the most up to date printers in the market at the moment.
In the real sense of the word though, a laser printer is a kind of printer that uses a laser beam to produce an image. This image is produced on a drum and the image is then transferred to the paper using a combination of heat and pressure. This process makes paper coming out of a laser printer feel hot to the touch.
As compared to the dot matrix printer, the laser printer seems to have several advantages. First, the laser printer works much faster than the dot matrix type. Most laser printers can work at a speed of six pages per minute and this is equivalent to 40 characters per second. Some sophisticated laser printers can even produce text at the speed of 20 pages per minute.
Another quality of the laser printer is the fact that it can handle high resolution work perfectly. In this context, resolution refers to how many dots per inch (dpi) the printer lays down. Most laser printers have a range of 300 dpi to 1200 dpi. This is quite good when one considers the fact that even the highly sophisticated offset printers work at 1200 dpi to 2400 dpi. It has to be added as well that laser printers can achieve even higher resolutions by the use of special techniques, which are known as resolution enhancement.
Laser printers generally produce very good quality printing. This is why publishing houses use them to produce designs, which are then printed onto a laser film. From this laser film, the lithographic plates are made and the process of large scale printing and publishing is carried out.
In terms of colour, laser printers can be grouped into two. First, there is the very popular monochrome printer. This printer uses a single colour toner and the toner is relatively cheap. There is also the colour printer, which uses a colour toner. The toner used by the colour printer is very expense but the advantage is that it can produce printed matter in full process colour.
In most offices, publishing houses and print media organizations, laser printers are the preferred choices. This is simply because it makes sense to use this type of printer. They are affordable, durable and easy to use. More to the point, the toners can be easily replaced when the need to do so arises.
