An astonishing 23% of roadside assistance plans exclude cover for ‘misfuelling’.

The findings were brought to light by research firm Defaqto and will come as a huge shock to many policyholders who may believe they have ‘all-encompassing’ policies.

Fuel problems have made the AA’s list of top ten most common problems dealt with by their motor breakdown patrols.

Mr Powell added, “Motorists need to be aware that there is a wide variation in the type of coverage offered by motor breakdown policies even beyond the better known classifications such as roadside assistance, home service, towing, onward travel, replacement car, hotel expenses and European cover.”
