RIGHT ROAD KIDS Holds Wrap Party for Gifting to Hundreds of Underprivileged Kids in Oxnard, CA

Dec. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- When Right Road Kids!™ founder, Paula Phillips, presented Kinder and Fourth Grade classroom programs at Ramona Elementary School last week, she was inspired to include small heartfelt holiday gifts for the children, but she received a surprise in return.  One little boy was so overcome with joy at receiving a little race car, that he held it to his heart for a half hour, smiling ear to ear, his unbridled joy bringing tears to the eyes of all the adults in the room.

Some kids call her Santa Paula, and for good reason.  Knowing that many of Ramona Elementary’s students are financially-challenged and living in poverty, Phillips imagined the joyful impact of every student at Ramona Elementary School receiving a small Christmas gift this year.  Then, she reached into her non-profit organization’s hope chest and out to her Volunteer Network to make it a reality.  

In the week since making the announcement, dozens of volunteers have donated gifts or money to buy gifts, which Phillips often purchases at a local “dollar store.”  Today, dozens more showed up at one of the two wrapping locations -- Phillips’ home and DCH Auto Group -- to wrap the 550+ gifts with love.  Phillips and a dozen more volunteers plan to deliver the gifts to the Oxnard, CA-based school this Thursday morning December 16, from 9:45 to 11:00 a.m.  Each class in the K-6 school will visit the school’s common area to enjoy holiday treats and to pick an age-appropriate gift to call their own during what might otherwise be a very bleak holiday season for them and their families.

Phillips was elated by the enthusiastic response of the Right Road Kids community, saying, “Wow, when word gets around through our Volunteer Network, people come out of the woodwork to help!  It's like we have this special ‘helping-kids-machine!’ It's simply awesome!”

Ventura County-based Paula Phillips and Right Road Kids!™ (formerly known as The Dream Fund Outreach) have been working directly with kids in schools, classrooms, and youth organizations throughout Ventura County and around the country for over eighteen years. Through a plethora of award-winning creative programs, the non-profit organization has inspired the self-esteem, character, confidence, and talents of tens of thousands of children and has been instrumental in helping them find and travel their Right Roads in school and in life. In November 2010, Phillips was honored by the Oxnard School Board for her extensive efforts to assist local schools.
