Wow! Is what describes this new series by Ray. Only six paintings in this series have been released. The color and movement in these impressionistic paintings is sublime.
Many wear khangas over their skirts while working in the fields to keep the dust of their skirts. Khangas are very lightweight loose weave fabric. They are designed with a proverb or saying such as ‘Peace, Love, Unity’ - ‘Your Lips are Your Enemy’ and even ‘WOW!’
Wow! Is what describes this new series by Ray. He says of his work “ My paintings identify African Culture and Swahili tradition. I like to portray my people; I explain my peoples daily activities. I am inspired by African women, especially Swahili women when wearing a khanga; showing lots of beautiful colors.
A limited number of these paintings have been secured by Jumart African Art and are available to be viewed at http://www.jumart.net/
The color and movement in these impressionistic paintings is sublime. Usually small in size 31cm x 40.5cm and occasionally 48cm x 58.5cm these paintings, the medium used is acrylics on canvas. The paintings look fabulous in roughly hewn frames made from reclaimed timber which are specially made to order especially for this artists work.
At the time of writing the paintings of Saidi Ray – if you can find them – can be obtained at very reasonable prices but be warned the prices for his art is quickly rising in direct proportion to the rising popularity of this artist.
