Levittown Animal Hospital Hosts Free Wellness and Vaccine Clinic

Levittown Animal Hospital will be hosting their first annual Free Dog & Cat Wellness and Vaccine Clinic on Sunday, January 9th, 2011 from 10am to 3pm at their Hempstead Turnpike location.

Dec. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Levittown Animal Hospital announced today that they will be hosting their first annual Free Dog & Cat Wellness and Vaccine Clinic on Sunday, January 9th, 2011 from 10am to 3pm at their Hempstead Turnpike location.  As a commitment to the entire Long Island community, the hospital will be providing free examinations and vaccines for pet owners who may not otherwise be able to afford veterinary care.

The vaccine clinic will help decrease the incidence of many infectious diseases including Rabies.  Clinic volunteers hope to increase the community’s awareness of the importance of preventative veterinary care. Professional dog trainers will also be available at the clinic to offer help with dog behavior problems.

In today’s economic climate, it is rare to see any small business give anything away. Levittown Animal Hospital’s director, Dr. Dennis Leon, explains: “We owe our success to the community that has helped support us since we first opened in 1965.  The past few years have been tough for everyone, but there's no reason why basic preventative care can't be provided for those who need it the most.  We’ve done well, so it’s time to give back.”

The vaccine clinic will be run by about 12 volunteers, including employees of Levittown Animal Hospital, former employees, friends and relatives.  Since Levittown Animal Hospital is normally open for business on Sundays, the decision was made to shut down the hospital for a day in order to offer this free clinic.

Among the volunteers will be Dr. Mark Nunez, Levittown Animal Hospital’s newest veterinarian.  The free clinic was scheduled before Dr. Nunez was hired, but just happens to fall on his fourth day of work at the hospital. “ I was a bit hesitant to ask Dr. Nunez to give up a day of work and volunteer for the free clinic,” said Dr. Leon, “but when I mentioned it to him, he was all for it.”

Dr. Nunez added, “When Dr. Leon asked me to volunteer my time at the clinic, it was a no-brainer. This free vaccine clinic is simply the right thing to do.”
