Dec. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Creating a beautiful garden isn't easy for everyone, especially for people who don't have a green thumb.  With today's sources of information about gardening, the knowledge you need is at your fingertips.  There is lots of information out there about planting vegetables, herbs, flowering plants, annuals and perennials. A local garden centre is a great place to get information, ideas and help as you work on your garden.  Ask the experienced gardeners in your family or amongst your friends for help and advice.  Magazines and gardening books are good to use as inspiration as you plan the design and layout of your garden.  To get information, ideas and tips watch a garden show on TV.  If you're finding it difficult to figure out how to choose plants appropriate for your climate and soil conditions then you should take a walk around your neighbourhood to see what is working (and what isn't) for your neighbours.

Once you have some ideas in place about what you want your garden to look like then you need to try to put together a design plan.  The design you choose will depend on your goals for the garden and what you plan to use it for.  Think about what will grown in your climate easily when you determine your design.  Don't forget to consider the soil and drainage on your property.  Try to make your design plans versatile, realistic and cost effective.  You should consider whether you want to plant a small garden patch or redesign your entire front or back yard.  Do you need to use aggregates and stone?  Do you need rocks, flagstones, sod or grass seed?  Will you be using soil or mulches? Will your design require you to add a water feature like a pond or waterfall? If you plan out what you want to do ahead of time it will be easier for you to cost out your ideas and have a goal in mind before you start to buy the materials you need..

Before you start your gardening project you need to plan your budget carefully.  Set a realistic budget before you decide on the type of gardening project you want to start.  Setting a budget is important but in order to be successful you have to stick to your budget too.  Shopping for deals and specials and finding gardening savings is sometimes really important in order for you to stay on budget.  Weekly flyers and sales at your local garden centre are a good way to find deals.  It is important that you don't let cost affect the quality of plants that you buy.  Make sure that the plants you get, whether on sale or not, are healthy.  If you choose a plant that is unhealthy it could die which will mean that you will have to pay more money to replace it.  Other healthy plants in your garden can be affected by one unhealthy plant that can spread disease throughout your garden.  It is critical that you purchase healthy plants while remaining on budget.

You will easily find a number of great tips for your garden once you start looking for them.  Choosing plants that weeds hate is always a great idea that will help you cut down on the labour and maintenance needed to keep your garden weed free.  Ground hugging plants naturally suppress weeds.  If colourful plants require too much maintenance then perhaps you want to consider adding colour to your garden by using colourful planting boxes, pots and containers.  You can keep invasive plants under control and your garden looking neat and clean by using border edging. Preparing your plants for dry spells will help keep them healthy.  You can reduce the amount of mowing you need to do by using hardwood decking, gravel or paving areas of your property and then planting plants around the borders and edges.  There are a number of ways to make your garden beautiful and healthy..
