The Zambezi flood plain dominates much of the scenery. Elephant, buffalo, lion and leopard are among the large mammals found. The forest bordering the river contains ebony and mahogany trees, which in turn, provide a haven for birds. Canoeing on the Zambezi, with its slow pace and unique vantage point, is a popular activity here.

When to Visit:
Whenever travel to Zimbabwe, the best and most suitable time is April through May and August through September. It is better to go to Zimbabwe in late April or early May as a consequence of the annual 6-day Harare International Festival in the Arts. It is the largest cultural event in a rural area and one of the leading festivals in Africa. The festival covers 5 disciplines of arts: music, theatre, spoken word, artworks, and dance. The best time to visit Victoria Falls is after the rainy season (April and May) - although the spray may obscure your view slightly. At the end of the dry season (October to December), the water levels are low, and you can sit in a rock pool and cautiously peer over the edge.
